Step Testing
Step testing is a proven method of localising water loss within a zoned distribution system. It works by measuring the flow of water into a zone as valves are shut off in sequence.
Step testing is conducted at night, where water consumption is at a minimum. The targeted area is subdivided by the systematic closing of valves during this period of minimum night flow. The flow data is analysed to determine the areas of suspected leakage.
Leak pinpointing is then carried out in the section of the zone that had high night flows.
